TEMPLATING

Templating is the process of developing a countertop template that will allow the fabricator to know the exact measurements of your new countertop. Without a template, the fabricator would not have an accurate idea of the exact shape and measurements the countertop requires. Before there can be any template made, there are a few things you will need to do. You must make sure that all cabinets are installed and that all appliances are on-site. Without these two factors in place, you will not be able to make an accurate template. After you have completed these two steps, you can schedule templating. Once you have completed the prerequisites for templating and scheduled your appointment, a skilled technician will arrive to take the measurements. The technician will add in additional pertinent details, such as any overhangs, backsplashes, specialty cuts, cutouts for sinks and faucets or seams that need to be factored into the project. After this, the measurements are double-checked to make sure they are completely accurate. If the measurements are even a fraction of an inch off, it can drastically impact the project. Once the measurements are verified, the technician sends them to the fabrication facility. At the facility, the template is laid out on the stone’s surface. Following this, the stone can be cut using fabrication machinery. After the templating process, and once you have confirmed the part of the stone you would like to use, the slab will be cut to the specific shape and measurements of your new countertop.

FABRICATION

Fabrication involves making a final inspection for stone flaws, including blemishes, fissures, seams, and scratches. The slab is laid out to ensure the best appearance of both color and vein texture. Then, the stone is cut to approximately 1/16 of an inch of its final thickness. Edging and any special scribing will further shape the stone. A multi-step process involving ever-increasing grit polish is used to smooth the stone surface; finally, your stone is washed, dried, and the sealer base coat is applied. All of this typically occurs off the job-site so the stone is ready to be installed when it reaches your home.

COUNTERTOP SEALING

Granite countertops need to be resealed once a year. With this service we can find the right chemicals and polishes to make your countertops look like new, even if it was installed by other suppliers. We can also polish the granite by removing the thin, damaged surface layer. Without proper protection, granite can lose its luster. The finish can turn dull, and impact damage will start to scratch the surface. Worn granite is more likely to stain and crack. If you want to keep your granite surfaces safe or you start to notice wear, give us a call and we can give you a free quote.
